Car repair and restoration is a bit of a problem for many enthusiasts. On the one hand, there can be nothing quite as frustrating as a piece that is supposed to fit in place but just won't seem to. If you have ever opened the hood or slid under the carriage of a car to do some repairs on a part, you know exactly what we are talking about. Odds are that you have used a few choice words and maybe even banged around a bit in frustration when you just can't seem to fit that piece in.
On the other hand, there is that sense of total elation when the piece finally slides in (or sometimes is placed on the first try). Of course, then you have to move on to the next piece and begin the whole process again, until you finally finish the car. And then you will probably move on to the next car project, right?
Insane as it may seem, some of us are just drawn to repairing cars. There is the fact that once the job is complete it is apparent for all to see in favour of the self-styled mechanic, along with pride in a job well done. There is nothing like driving by the Scarborough homes around you, or out of your Oakville real estate on a sunny day in your newest machine. We also tend to think that one of the big draws for most enthusiasts of car repair and restoration is the sheer number of options that come with the hobby.
A good indicator of this is the number of car parts out there today. There are absolutely millions of different parts out there, and on top of the variety there are parts made in every conceivable different size. Sometimes getting ahold of a part is almost like searching for treasure. Now, with the help of the internet, you could live in Vancouver and find that one missing part in the garage of someone's Haliburton cottage.
There are car parts made for the exterior of the vehicle. Functional parts such as door handles and antennae are vital and can be put in by you. These and other parts also have things to consider, as far as appearance goes; hubcaps are a lot more than practical today, they also tend to have a statement value about a vehicle and its owner. The exterior of some cars make you imagine they're parked on luxury real estate in Toronto while others produce less flattering images.
Then there are the car parts for the interior of your vehicle. Again, there are parts meant for form, some for function, and some that combine both. Door locks, steering wheels, stick shifts, and so on all belong in this category.
And finally, we come to the car parts that actually have a role in the running of the vehicle. These are the parts that drive every auto junkie crazy both with desire and frustration, and there are simply too many to count. Some parts will only fit certain models, others can be universally interchangeable. On some, the difference is a matter of one extra thread or screw. This can add to even more frustration when you go to place it in your vehicle and find out it does not quite fit; it's back to the choice words and then back to the store. If you're work involves a vehicle, maybe doing home renovations on bathrooms you know how detrimental it can be if just one of these parts is not fuctioning correctly.
While it is likely you don't need any help with your vocabulary during the times of frustration in auto repair, odds are that this section of our site will be able to help you when it comes to some car parts questions. Check out what we have inside.
