Every year we seem to be experiencing more and more drawbacks to our global dependence on oil. While we would all like to be using a greener option to get us to work every day it is still the only option out there for the average consumer. But that doesn't mean that there are not many alternative fuels being tested today that could one day become the new energy powerhouse. Someday in our lifetimes even we could be getting to that acne treatment Edmonton appointment or to school using a very different, more sustainable material. Here are some of the main contenders in the current race for a new alternative fuel source.
To understand fully what the alternative fuels are you must first understand what the conventional fuels are. From powering homes in Richmond Hill to running factory equipment in the United Kingdom, the fuels most used throughout the world right now are fossil fuels (oil, propane, coal, and natural gas) and nuclear materials like uranium. There are some fuel sources, like biodiesel and non-fossil natural gas, that are used in some countries as a standard fuel source but are not yet conventional throughout the planet.
Biofuel is definitely one of the leading alternatives fuels currently on the market. There are city buses running in American cities on soybean biodiesel and scientists have been experimenting for years with vegetable oil as an energy source. While you won't find biofuel at the local gas station in Thornhill real estate, you will find it as stations in countries like Brazil. Ethanol is also a biofuel, as it is made from corn. Canada hopes that by the end of the year forty-five percent of the country's gasoline consumption will contain ten percent ethanol.
There are also some fossil fuels that are currently not being used throughout the world that are a cleaner source of energy than petroleum. Compressed natural gas is one of these and could be used in cars providing about the same energy efficiency as a gasoline engine. The problem is that this source needs more space for fuel storage so it is not yet a very practical option. The other issue is that while it does burn cleaner, natural gas is still a non-renewable source. If you're working as an agent driving to Mississauga real estate for sale you are likely going to want a source that the world can sustain.
Hydrogen is a source that scientists are really just beginning to work with for energy purposes. It's still mostly being discussed at international conferences and Oakville banquet halls rather than being used in practice in the lab. But this is definitely another source that has huge potential for the future.
